LOCATION

The University of Warmia and Mazury (UWM) is a public university in the city of Olsztyn in north-east Poland in Europe. Poland is ranked 35th in the World Happiness Report 2022–24 and its GDP per capita is US$ 23,010 for 2024. Warsaw is the capital of Poland, situated on the Vistula River and is the largest city of the country.

Olsztyn is a small city on the Łyna River in northern Poland. It is the capital of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. Roughly covering an area of 90 sq.kms., the population of Olsztyn is 2 lakh. Olsztyn has been crowned the best city to live in Poland for 2024, according to a ranking by Business Insider, even surpassing Warsaw.

Olsztyn is well-connected by both rail and roads. It serves as a major trade center in north-eastern Poland, particularly within the Masurian lake district, with significant railway and road infrastructure.

UNIVERSITY

Founded in 1999, the University of Warmia and Mazury (UWM) in Olsztyn is a public university of Poland. It is the biggest public university in north-eastern Poland and the only university in Poland with a structure similar to American universities.

The University of Warmia and Mazury (UWM) is ranked #1001 in the QS World University Rankings 2025 and #1501 in the THE (Times Higher Education) rankings for 2023.

With 15 faculties, 16,000+ enrolled students (900 international students), 1,600+ teaching staff, the Teacher–Student ratio is 1:18 while the Female–Male Ratio is 61:39 (as per 2025).
